Open Pharma quarterly update: July–September 2024

Sophie Nobes

The third quarter of 2024 was a busy one for Open Pharma.

July saw us finish the preliminary analysis of our survey about how healthcare professionals use plain language summaries. We are planning to submit an abstract providing an overview of the results to the 2025 European Meeting of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP). Watch this space for updates!

In August, we were delighted to see the publication of a case study about how Open Pharma is driving transparency by the UK Committee on Research Integrity.

Preparations for our 2025 conference activities are now in full swing! We’ve submitted a workshop proposal about the role of plain language content in communicating medical research information to the Researcher to Reader Conference. We’ve also submitted two proposals for roundtable discussions on predatory publishing and our plain language summary of publication (PLSP) guidance project to the 2025 European Meeting of ISMPP.

Now, we’re looking ahead to International Open Access Week. On Wednesday 23 October, we’ll be presenting an ISMPP University webinar, in which we’ll explore Creative Commons licences in the context of industry-funded research publications. You can register for the event here.
